Q: How did you first discover your passion for calisthenics?
A: I was sitting in my room during college with my best friend Jimmy. We saw a video of Barstarzz and said "dang this would be soo cool if we did this one day". I ended up quitting football and went to the park because of that image in my head. I completed my first ever muscle up and was HOOKED. WOW, I thought. This is incredible.
Q: How does it feel like being one of the first content creator calisthenics athletes in the world?
A: I don't think of it, ever. I'm just a normal dude who loved something and shared it with the world. So to me, it doesn't feel like much.
Q: What inspired you to share your knowledge and experiences through videos?
A: I felt like crap growing up between age 12-19. I felt like I wasn't worth anything. Like people looked at me and thought I was ugly, a loser and nothing. So I wanted to work as hard as possible to show the world what is possible!!
Q: Can you recall a pivotal moment that solidified your dedication to calisthenics?
A: My impact in the world. Seeing peoples faces light up and witnessing TRUE hard work and possibility, did it all for me!
Q: What role do mental strength and mindset play in achieving success in calisthenics?
A: It is everything. We must always push to the next limit. And when we feel a movement is enough, we recognize that the movement can be even MORE difficult with added resistance, more time held, a bit more straight, or even with competition in-front of us.
Q: Have you faced any significant challenges or setbacks along your calisthenics journey? How did you overcome them?
A: When I was 24 I experienced a severe injury to my low back. This would forever change my life. I decided to shift from just calisthencis and start taking care of my body. I did this by working on my mind. I learned more about WHY I loved calisthenics. I also built a cool business I could love at the same time!
Q: How do you manage to balance your personal life, professional commitments, and your own fitness routine?
A: I have priorities in life. With my 5 priorities, I am able to choose whether something social, professional or wellness fits in or not!
Q: What are some common misconceptions about calisthenics that you would like to address?
A: That it needs to be difficult. Not at all. Calisthenics is movement. It's expression. You can do calisthenics to end your workouts, start your workouts or even as your entire workout.
Q: We all know that you always say “Eat right, feel right” so what are your thoughts on the importance of nutrition for mental health and recovery in calisthenics?
A: Haaaaaa. Yes. IF YA EAT RIGHT, YA FEEEEEEL RIGHT. That's the truth. Nutrition is king. For recovery, mental health, muscle building, fat loss, and more. Nutrition has provided me the opportunity to push my physical and mental limits. Directly supporting my business, relationships and more.
Q: How do you stay motivated and inspired to continuously improve and push your boundaries?
A: I allow myself to follow my intuition. That's the KEY
Q: Have you ever used dance as a form of expression or to enhance your creativity in your workouts?
A: Many times. Like dancing on the pull-up bars. Just because it's not a movement everyone else does, doesn't mean it isn't working. I loved walking in the air to do pull-ups and listening to music as I completed them!
Q: We all enjoy your dancing skills, which never fail to bring a smile to our faces! We would love to hear more about what motivates you and the personal benefits you gain from dancing. Does it primarily serve as a hobby, or does it hold a special place in your life, contributing to aspects such as creativity and mental well-being?
A: Dancing is expression, to me. It's a way for me to get lost in what is. To be. To flow. And to love that moment. It's a way for me to forget about all things and to embrace that time in this blip we call life.
